Silverback – go ape with usability testing software

Clearleft interaction design

The super talented and down-to-earth guys from Clearleft just released their Silverback usability software into the wild, and it's a beast.

Silverback allows you to simply and easily record user activity. Usability testing isn't just for the big boys with money to burn, this app let's you do "guerilla" testing for only $49.95 (beats four-figures by a longshot).

The program (Mac OS X TIger or Leopard only) records user reaction shots using iSight, and you can export your session as a Quicktime .mov file. You can watch your subject mouse through and click things while simulaneously watching their eyes track and facial expression.

Silverback Usability Software

You can try the program free of charge for 30 days and the license is quite fair: personal or one-person businesess can install it on mulitple machines, multi-person businesses pay per install. 10% of the proceeds go endangered gorillas (nice touch!).

This coupled with the Google Trifecta and cost is no longer an excuse to not have an effective website. Go check out the demo.
